Public service runs deep in my family. My dad, my father-in-law, and my husband all served in the military. And several of us have also served more than 20 years in federal government careers.

Lorraine Landfried is a senior vice president in Booz Allen’s health business. She leads digital transformation programs, most notably the Benefits Integrated Delivery program for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Lorraine and her team bring the latest technology advancements to address evolving federal mission challenges while accelerating modernization and decommissioning through integrated approaches that emphasize collaboration, user experience, and DevSecOps best practices.
Public service has been a lifelong passion for Lorraine. Before joining Booz Allen, she held several leadership positions in the federal government, mostly recently as VA’s deputy chief information officer (DCIO) for product development. As DCIO, she oversaw and facilitated all VA IT development activities, including planning and oversight of IT projects supporting VA’s transformation initiatives to end veteran homelessness, eliminate the claims backlog, and improve access to care. Among her major accomplishments, she reorganized product development into a competency-based activity, implemented agile development rigor using the Project Management Accountability System, and dramatically improved on-time delivery of IT products.
Prior to VA, Lorraine was a senior executive at the Department of Homeland Security in U.S. Customs and Border Protection where she managed mission-critical IT programs and associated technology infrastructure. She began her IT career as a software developer with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Lorraine serves on the board of directors of Adoptions Together. This nonprofit offers specialized services in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area to support children and families formed through adoption, guardianship, foster care, and kinship care.
Lorraine holds a B.S. in industrial technology from Southern Illinois University and an M.S. in operations research and management science from George Mason University. She is certified as a project management professional.
Why are you passionate about the work you do? I’ve spent my entire career supporting federal government missions, from intellectual property protection and homeland security to serving veterans and their families. I love that I get to work at the intersection of these missions and the latest digital solutions.
How do you inspire your teams to do excellent work? How do your teams inspire you? It’s not hard to inspire our teams to do excellent work because of how important the work is. My role is to challenge them at times, but mostly I support them in solving problems and removing roadblocks. They inspire me with their passion for what we do. They’re talented, creative, hardworking, and deeply committed to being the best while equally devoted to our client missions. They never give up.
Why is it important for Booz Allen to be a diverse and inclusive workplace? Our clients and the people they serve are diverse.
